THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central's baseball team stayed red-hot on the diamond Tuesday night.

A week after capturing the Region 1-AAAA championship, the Yellow Jackets used a five-run fifth inning to throttle Class 7A Tift County 8-3.

Central pounded out 13 hits, three each by Griffin Taylor and Lawson Odom, to improve to 20-6. Adam Lane, Will Carson and JJ Potts each chipped in two hits and two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets. Reid Harvey and Jason Benton each added a hit.

The run support was more than enough for Central's pitching staff, anchored by Lane. He shut down the Blue Devils for six innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run. Drew Parker and Ethan Barrett closed out the game on the mound for the Yellow Jackets, who limited the Blue Devils to just six hits.

Central has now won 17 of its last 18 games.
