Region 1-AA athletic directors and basketball coaches met Friday to finalize seeding for the upcoming Class AA state tournament, and the Thomasville boys were granted the No. 1 seed and declared region champs.
The Thomasville girls were named region runners-up and received the No. 2 seed.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the region athletic directors decided to base seeding for the playoffs off regular season performance instead of having a region tournament this season.
The THS girls will host Laney on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the THS gym in the state playoffs’ first round.
The Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs finished their region schedule with a 7-3 record and 9-6 overall. With limited experience returning from last year's unit and a new coach leading the Lady Bulldogs, Thomasville began the season at 1-3, then rebounding in their last eleven games to finish 8-3. The Lady Bulldogs are coached by Kim Taylor, who is in her first season at Thomasville, and she is assisted by Emmanuel Cooper, Melinda Lee, Rashad Spivey, and Hilary Williams.
The 2021 Lady Bulldogs include Kayundria Bush, Breanna Butler, Herberyia Diggs, Ava Fletcher, Mallory Fletcher, Laila Harvey, Kennedy Hayes, Dallas Hill, Brianna Reddings, Jabria Richardson, Misprecious Thomas, and Sanaa White.
The THS boys will host Putnam County on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the THS gym in the first round.
The Bulldogs finished their region schedule with a perfect 10-0 record and finished 15-1. It is the Bulldog's third region championship in four years. Legendary head coach Ben Tillman coaches the Bulldogs, and he is assisted by assistants Shaun Jones, Kiel Angry, and Willie Clayton.

“Babies in arms” are admitted free of charge to all events in the company of a ticket or pass holder.
There are no age discrepancies during the playoffs. Faculty passes will not be honored in the playoffs. The only passes that are honored are GHSA passes and those who hold those passes must sign in at the GHSA booth. Every person who enters the gymnasium must have a ticket.
Thomasville High School will operate at a reduced capacity for the first round of the GHSA Playoffs. Face coverings (over the nose and mouth) shall be required as a condition of all guest entrance, exit, and movement throughout the gymnasium and any time guests are unable to maintain the recommended physical distance from others who are not in the same household.
