THOMASVILLE — The Brookwood Warriors are bound for the second round of the GISA Class AAA playoffs. Spurred by their second-half defense, the Warriors pulled away from the Westminster Wildcats 46-40 Wednesday night. Brookwood will play Creekside Christian Academy on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Tattnall Academy.
The Warriors won despite committing eight turnovers and scoring just 18 points in the first half.
Brookwood took over the game after halftime with hustle and defense. A steal by JP Chapman sparked the Warriors run. Following a missed layup, Chapman’s hustle led to a steal and he fed Dallas Forsyth for a 3-pointer and a 23-19 lead. Garrett Ledford added another trey and the Warriors built an 11-point lead.
The Wildcats sank a 3-pointer to open the fourth to trim the deficit to three but that was as close as they could get. Brookwood outscored Westminster 28-23 after half.
Chapman sank a pair of free throws to ice the game. He finished with 12 points.
Harrison Owens led the Warriors with 14 points.
