THOMASVILLE — The Brookwood Warriors stayed alive in the GISA Class AAA state baseball playoffs, thanks in no small part to Hunter McLendon’s gem.
McLendon held the Dominion Christian Knights to one hit in 3 2/3 innings of relief, and the Warriors salvaged a split of the first two games with a 5-3 win in the nightcap.
Game 3 will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. at Strickland Field.
Jacob Lauderdale keyed an early four-run rally with a two-run single, and Parker Mirick’s double drove in another run.
McLendon also went 2-for-4 with one RBI. He retired the last 10 batters in order.
The Knights put the Warriors in a hole with a 5-3 win in the opener. Brookwood took a 3-1 lead in the first but did not score again in Game 1.
Dominion Christian broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth on a walk, an error and three hit batters. The Warriors had runners on first and third with no outs but Trystin Merson was summoned in relief and escaped the jam with no damage.
Zack Counts was 2-for-3 and Mirick had a double in the Game 1 loss.
