THOMASVILLE -- The 27th Annual 10K Rose City Run kicks off today at 8 a.m.

The race will feature runners from Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Wisconsin representing 47 cities and towns.

Former winners who have registered for the event include last year's female winner Julie Carico, Carrie Weyant and Herb Willis, who holds the course record-holder with a time of 29:56.

Dr. Jim Story will address the racers at 7:45 a.m. Mayor Rick Singletary will then welcome the group and Dr. Milton Gardner will say a runners' prayer. The pastor of First Baptist Church, Dan Spencer will sing the National Anthem.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. at Broad Street on the corner of Monroe and Broad close to the post office.

The one-mile run will follow at 9:30 a.m.
