The Thomasville ATAC swim team celebrates after finishing second in last weekend’s Tifton Invitational. The team hosts its Summer Invitational on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

TIFTON — The Thomasville ATAC YMCA swim team placed second in the Tifton Invitational Swim Meet in Tifton this weekend.

The swim meet was held at the Tifton YMCA Aquatics facility on Saturday and included eight teams from south Georgia and north Florida. The meet consisted of 80 individual events and 16 Relay events for boys and girls ages 5 to 18.

The host Tift Area Tidal Waves placed first with 62 swimmers earning a total of 778 points in individual events and relays. Thomasville ATAC earned 552 total points with only 21 swimmers taking part to earn second Place. The Valdosta YMCA Piranha team took third place honors with seven swimmers attending. They earned a total of 228 points.

Several athletes from Thomasville ATAC won high point trophies. Ben Thomas took second place in 8-and-under boys. Lydia Scharff finished second in 10-and-under girls. Maggie Davis won first place in 10-and-under girls. Tyler Neel placed first in 10-and-under boys. Megan Harding earned second place in the 14-and-under girls age group.

Coach Jill Tabacchi said the team had a fantastic performance and was proud of the team’s progress so early in the season.

The Thomasville ATAC swim team is affiliated with the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club for coaching and management support. The Thomasville ATAC 2009 Summer Invitational is occurs this Saturday at the Butler-Mason YMCA Aquatic Center on Remington Avenue.

The meet starts at 8:30 a.m. and will feature 84 individual events and 16 relay events for ages 5-and-up.
